Religious Reality TV - Imam Mudra
[13.07.10]
Reality TV shows have made stars in almost every field imaginable, from models, singers, chefs, designers to inventors and business managers - but now the same formula is being used in Malaysia to create a religious leader.
A new show called Imam Muda (Young Leader) pits 10 young men against each other in the quest to become one of Malaysia's top Imams. Contestants complete religious-based challenges designed to test their leadership potential and religious knowledge.
Imam Muda's producers state that their aim is to engage young Malaysian Muslims with their religion and their new religious leaders. Although currently only half way through the series, Imam Muda is the most watched program ever on the Islamic-themed cable channel that's showing it and a Facebook page dedicated to the show already has over 30,000 fans.
